Cleaning Resin Mixers - Be Careful!

Before you dive in the deep end without armbands, there are a few precautions you should take. First and foremost, it is highly advised that you clean your forced action mixer during your installation, ideally in-between mixes. By doing this, you’re minimising the risk of any collated resin sticking or Rubber crumb Surfacing to the inside of the drum. If you leave it too late, you risk being out till the owls come out cleaning your mixer!
Another piece of advice – don’t try and burn away any excess resin! Doing this will damage resin mixers and most importantly, your health. Engulfing the polyurethane within the mixture in flames will release toxic gasses such as carbon monoxide; which if inhaled can lead to severe respiratory complications. It is strongly advised you remove this idea from your head at once!
During Installation

As mentioned above, cleaning in-between mixes is the best way to keep your mixer spick and span. To achieve this, leave your mixer’s trap door open to reduce the risk of it seizing up and malfunctioning in future use. Next, remove any excess resin using a sponge doused in a white spirit. Once this has been completed, all that is left to do is wipe the drum with a clean, dry cloth. Your mixer is officially ready for the next batch of resin.
Post Installation

Cleaning your mixer post-installation and Resin Mixers will take more time but the same result can still be achieved. Before you allow any resin to set within the drum, add around 25kg of dry gravel with 1 litre of solvent that is able to reach a high boiling point.
Leave these ingredients within the mixer for about 10 minutes. After which, you can check to see whether the excess resin has been removed. If you’re happy, you can simply dispose of the gravel appropriately as notifiable waste. With your now empty drum, scrub away any remaining resin with a wire brush – the resin should be soaked by the solvent and easy to remove.
